About the Mad-Macs Crawfish
UDAHL Winter 2023-24 Championship Team

March 24, 2024 - The MadMacs Crawfish win the UDAHL Tier 2 - 2023-24 Winter Championship.  

 

Our season had its ups and downs for sure! There was a four game heater followed by a four game losing streak. Overtime heart-breakers and overtime/shootout triumphs. We entered the double elimination playoffs as the #5 seed (out of 7). These playoffs were filled with exciting one goal games. First it was a comback OT win against the Zombies. We scored with 2 seconds left in the game to tie it then scored in OT to take the win. This was payback for the final playoff game of the summer season against them. Next game was a gutsy shootout win over the #1 seeded Clams followed by a competitive 2-1 victory over the Apes. The key components to this victorious run to the championship game were superb goaltending (Danny Miller) and a solid defensive effort by every skater. The championship game proved to be a domination of the #2 seeded Blue Wings and culminated with a solid 8-4 victory to take the CUP! The team went 4-0 in the playoffs, dispatching the #1, #2, #4, and #6 seeds along the way. CHAMPS AGAIN!!

The 1st Championship for the team.....Winter 2012-13

At the Fred Rust Ice Arena in Newark, Delaware on Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 at about 10:45PM…something changed.

For an adult league hockey team, whose long 15 year plus history included over 60 different players, over 700 games , stitches, pulled muscles, broken bones, damaged egos and several team names: Mountain Men, Diamond Dogs, Conectiv Energy , Crease Monkeys, Toilet Ducks and ultimately: Matilda’s Crawfish…something changed.

On that Wednesday night, several of the veteran players on the team discussed when they had last won a championship game….if there had been a win, the memory was distant.

However, in this year’s 23 game season, for 25 hockey players who scored 96 goals, piled up 132 assists, made 678 saves, drank countless pitchers of beer, ate many plates of nachos…something changed.  Our team finally WON OUR LAST GAME OF THE SEASON which means we can now call ourselves…CHAMPIONS.

Listed here, in order of games played for the team this season, are the names of 25 men who have now earned the right to call themselves CHAMPIONS:
